Im sure this question has been beaten to death but...

Im currently using a PC with windows XP and i am looking into hooking up another LCD monitor to my computer. when i asked someone at the store what i needed i had one person tell me i needed a special program and video card and had another person tell me all i needed was a VGA dual Y splitter cable. Can someone please clarify this for me?

What do you want your dual monitors to do?

If you want to have 2 monitors - so you can have windows or another application running on one monitor - and you want some other application running on the second monitor - so you can drag them from one monitor leading into the other to control your applications - all you need is a video card with dual outputs on em ( pretty cheap ). If you want to game - you'll need a higher end video card. At least with Windows 7 that's all you need.

Go read the sticky post on dual monitors - not sure if Windows XP is the same - but I'd guess it is. It's a good place to start til you get some more answers - but it's not complicated at all.

If you want to show the same screen on two monitors - a splitter may work ( though I'm unaware of how this works myself )

But first things first - what specifically are you trying to do with your dual monitors?

A Y splitter cable will just end up giving you a mirror image of the first screen.

If you want more desktop space you MUST have a graphics card with 2 vga or dvi outputs.

Post the specs and part no. of the desktop
