dual monitor display

so, today my 22" widescreen acer arrived to add to my 17" viewsonic. i wanted to run both monitors, each generally independent of the other. unfortunately, nvidia only offers cloning and horizontal/vertical continuance which doesnt work because of resolution incompatibility.

is there any way to run the monitors as two separate desktops with a mouse able to go from one to the other?

with both monitors plugged into the video card right click the desktop go to properties, then settings. Click the monitor that comes up as number 2, should appear grey compared to the primary monitor. Then go down and check the box that says extend my desktop to this monitor, that should give you additional desktop space.
