Dual monitor - doesn't work on reboot

I have an HP DX5150 SFF PC on which I have a dual monitor setup. My main monitor (monitor 1) is hooked up to the VGA port and the secondary monitor (monitor 2) is hooked into the DVI port. I set everything up and it works great. The problem is when I reboot, shut down, etc. only the one monitor works. As I boot up the system, I'll see the Windows splash screen appear on both monitors, but when the actual GUI loads only the one monitor displays stuff. I can reseat the monitor connection, then go back into the display properties and set it back up again and it'll work fine. I'm not sure what to do right now because I think I have tired everything. Thanks again for a response.

BTW, All drivers, including the drivers for the monitor, are up to date.

I'm not sure but are you using windows desktop properties or are you using the program that came with the graphics cards? because if windows is using both monitors until it loads the other program, maybe they are conflicting.

Well the ATI program is installed into the Advanced settings on the display properties however that is not controlling the dual setup (i made sure of that lol) ... I use just the Windows Display properties

...good call - i'm going to try that now...i'll let you all know what happens.

edit:

well -- i tried that and it didn't work...

It seems to me that you can change the settings, work fine, then upon login windows forgot what you set everything too... I did check the user acct. and it is set up as an admin. so there should be no reason for windows to be doing this.

are you saying when windows has that loading screen it only goes no one screen... because if that is what you're talking about that is what usually happens and the login screen only goes on one screen too.

nope the windows splash screen is on both monitors when windows is loading the os... as soon as the os loads and the login box appears, there is nothing on the secondary monitor

yes, exactly...

I can't think of anything else to do. I just keep my compute on/locked so I don't gotta keep changing the settings lol

it is supposed to only show the login screen on one monitor unless you set it to clone. dualview will only show on both screens after you login.

go to display settings check both monitors make one primary and one extend.

i'm currently running a dual monitor setup, and its SUPPOSED to show the login(welcome screen) for windows XP in your main monitor. After that though, it'll show up on both screens.
