Is there really that much of a difference between having dual cards? I'm currently figuring out whether i should get dual or just stick with the one. My mobo will support 2sli so should i take advantage of it?

The GTX 280 plays every game very well. Every game it can pull great FPS rates. anything above 50-60 FPS you can't see that big of difference anyway if any at all. One is just fine for most people. The only reason I would get two cards is if I was running super high resolution, like a 30" monitor or something. Put the extra money into other hardware.

Thanks for the feedback. I plan on running quad core, 8gb of ram on a 22inch monitar but high res. I'm just curious if having dual would even raise your fps by a great amount. if it only raises it 5-10 fps then i wouldn't consider it but i don't know the benchmarks or comparisons of having one compared to having two.

On a 22" monitor....the max resolution you can even run on most is 1680x1050. There are some 22" that can run different...but most can only do about that. Make sure you look at the max resolution of your monitor and then make the choice.

I have the Samsung SyncMaster 2253 which is a great 22" monitor at 1680x1050 and my 9800 GTX runs everything great for my resolution.

Call Of Duty 4 pulling around 70 FPS with frame rates locked, about 90-95 fps with frame rates unlocked.
Crysis pulling about 40 FPS, all settings high, looks amazing!

The GTX 280 will smash my 9800 GTX, on a 22" screen......one GTX 280 will do everything you want to throw at it! Take the extra money and put it some where else in your system :)

Thanks for the help scout. So basically the only reason to spend the money on dual is for very high resolutions, it won't make any difference on the lower resolutions? That is exactly what my moniter runs a 1680x1050 is my max.

You would see an increase in performance with a second card....but not enough to justify the price tag. Just get one first and see how it runs your stuff. I am positive you will be happy with it!

Yea definitely won't justify the price. With the way Video card technology moves today, SLi/Crossfire doesn't seem like a very good choice on high end cards.

I would buy a second one as you need it later. You will see in increase in frames for sure, but you wouldn't notice the increase. Once you're above 40 fps, you usually can't tell an increase in performance. As of now the only game that would benefit from a second GTX 280, at least in my opinion, would be Crysis. As games become more graphics intensive and your frames drop below 30, then I would add the second 280. By then it will be a lot cheaper.

They are exactly right....one will be just fine. The second one is just throwing away money....maybe in a year or so then pick up a second one.
