ok i have just bought a 945P-A socket 775 for a new computer i plan on building.... my plan was to get a processor off of ebay(cheaper) my concern is it says it supports dual core processors. DOes that mean my processor has to be dual or does that mean it supports both? also waht is the difference beween the single core and the dual core

My Mother Board

Feature

ATI Crossfire
Supports ATI CrossFire Technology
64bit support
Allows platforms to access more memory and larger files. Large memory intensive applications can see dramatic performance increases .

PCI Express
Next generation I/O interface!
Dual core
Outperforms single-core processors on most multithreaded applications while running at lower clock speeds and consuming less power.

8-Channel Audio

Enable premium home theater experience through the PC,with support for all major audio formats.
FSB 1066
Supports the latest 1066MHz front side bus Intel Pentium 4 CPU

Dual Channel DDR2 667
Expends memory bandwidth to 10.7GB/s. Memory access time is dramatically shortened, which leads for extremely quick results.
Serial-ATA II
Support N-ports SATAII running at 300MB/s at 2x double speed than SATA. Fully compatible with soon-to-be-released SATA HDD, CD-ROM and other cutting edge devices with NCQ function support.

Dual cores are nice man, get one. I switched from a single to a dual for my 3D work, and you really notice the difference. Just make sure the it has a good FSB, that's where I almost messed up when purchasing.

Well I did a simple upgrate (well not really simple if you've been reading my mobo bios nightmare) I just (in a sence) went from a Pentium 4, to a Pentium D.
I use autoCAD for floor plans, and SketchUp 5 for 3d models. With my old single (500 FSB), it would stagger when I turned on any sort of rendering, or shadowing. With the Dual (800 FSB) I notice no hesitation at all, and this is with the same 3d models.
Hey messege me and tell me what you think of Maya.
