Dual Router Setup

I setup a second router on my upstairs floor used to split an ethernet connection coming from the router on the main floor. It seems to work fine with my desktop connected to the 2nd router, however, when i connect my laptop to the 2nd router it seems as though it is connecting to both routers. in the connections manager it says it has internet access to "homeNet"( my home network) and "homeNet 2" (i assume cause by some conflict from the 2nd router). I have a feeling that the main problem is with the laptop but i dont have another computer to test that theory.

These are both wired routers?

The second router is connected to the first router with an ethernet cable and the PC and laptop are connected to the second router with ethernet cables?

if RIP is right you probably dont even need another router... a switch would work dandy.
