i'm planning on getting the Asus P5w DH deluxe for my conroe build i'm planning and i was told that the nvidia 7900 gt would be better than the ati x1900gt so i guess i'm going with the 7900 but would i eventually be able to get two of them even though the intel 975x chipset does not support sli? basically what i'm asking is if there is any way to get multiple video cards without using sli/crossfire and if so, how?

As of now, nVidia has not released SLi drivers for intel chipsets. Crossfire can be run on 975x however.

are you sure crossfire can run on that mobo? it isnt a crossfire chipset.

sweet im going to be going crossfire conroe soon.
Why? SLI is much better then crossfire. Crossfire has some issues to be worked out before it can compare to SLI let alone beat it.

okay so then should I forget about dual video cards since i'm going to get this motherboard and it won't be able to do sli and since crossfire has issues? I could just go ahead and get one video card and not worry about getting anything more in the future because i don't do anything that graphically intense that i would probably need anything more...

Ya, that would be fine. The 7900gt will play every game on max except fear I belive. Fear is so graphicly intense anyway. You will be very very happy with that card.

that sounds good to me but i have found one more option through a thread in the motherboards forum, i can get this motherboard which supports conroe and sli, still get the 7900gt and eventually get a second when i get the money. The only problem is that the Asus p5w-dh deluxe has a lot of features that i like which the p5n32 doesn't have such as the build in wifi and the remote for digital media or whatever it's called and i think that motherboard would be better since this computer is also going to be a media center pc. I think in the end i will go with the p5wdh deluxe and not get sli but i was just wondering what you guys think

if i do just go with a single 7900gt would this be a good one? it seems pretty nice to me judging by the little I know about video cards...

I would go with the asus p5b mobo, core 2 compatible but it is not crossfire nor sli compatible, but here is why I would get it. Ok its $100 cheaper then the mobo's you are looking at, that gives you an extra $100 to invest in your video card now. That would give you enough money to buy this card best single card out there other then the gx2's. I mean $350 for a x1900xtx its a ridiculous deal.

The P5W DH is the better board IMHO (albeit more expensive), unless you really think your going to upgrade to SLI (and it fits in your budget) I would stick with it.

EDIT: Regarding the above post, I was comparing the P5W DH to the P5N32-SLI SE, not the P5B.

Not really they benchmarked them and the p5b outperformed in some, don't remember the link but it was from a thread here.

if i get that i would have to get the deluxe because i need the firewire and i don't want to have to mess with a pci firewire or anything like that and the deluxe on newegg is $10 more than what i can get the p5w dh deluxe for, but i haven't shopped around at all for the p5b.

i don't want to get a nvidia 7950 because the only one on newegg is like $500 which would put me $200 more over my budget which i am already $400 over.. apparently i'm not very good at budgeting lol
