I'm thinking of buying a hp dv6000 and have couple of question; is there that much of a difference between the solo and duo; and the duos at low speeds from one another say 1.60 and 1.66

yes, the dual core processors are supposed to be noticably faster than the single core ones....especially when running multiple programs at the same time.

Duo is much better. It's two cores meaning you can do more, at one time, faster. Even with Hyper-Threading, dual is noticeable faster. You can really tell when you extract large zip files and extracting 2 at once.
