DVD backup

What software, apart from those made by Slysoft (CloneDVD etc...) can I use to make a backup copy of my movies?? Preferably free, cause that's why I'm not using the ones by Slysoft, even though they have great reputation.

You are not going to find anything worth it for free. I am using dvdfab platinum express and I think its awesome...I put my dvd in the dvd drive and a blank in the burner and press start thats it!I would seriously come up with some money and get this software.

I generally have the opposite opinion. The more automation the less options that are usually available.

For DVDs less than about 4.5 GB you can just use DVD Decrypter in iso mode. For dual layer dvds use DVD Shrink.

If you're talking about movies that you make yourself, then Nero can do it. If you're talking about copying rented commercial DVD's then I'm pretty sure no one on this forum would risk condoning illegal activity to bypass copyrights.

What options do you need? DVDFAB will make an exact copy or you can just copy the main movie with just the language you want...what other options do you realy need? The only thing all that other stuff is good for is confusing people and making coasters!

DVDFAB is the only thing ya need you dont have to deal with converting anything, ISO files? Glad I dont have to deal with them...LOL! Ya click one button and 45 minutes later I'm done while your still converting this and that.

To be honest, I'm getting quite fed up with copy protection. My dad recorded a show onto his new dvd-recorder and wanted to make a copy to send to my brother in Iraq (he and his unit like recieving shows/movies to watch). My dad tried using Nero to copy it and according to him "It didn't work. Something went wrong." When I was home over the weekend I read the recorder manual and it said that it incorporate Macrovision's protection on every recorded dvd. Basically a load of BS in my opinion. So yeah, the whole copy protection, DRM, DMCA, etc, etc is really getting on my nerves.

Yeah, I was making a more general statement there. There aren't all that many options for DVDs. Basically the ability to strip out the parts you want (such as no extras, commentary, etc) and to be able to recompress while maintaining adequate quality is all you really need... and that can be done with free software.
