DVD burner detected in XP, but not BIOS

I've never had this happen; usually it's the other way around. The drive works fine in Windows XP, but is not detected in BIOS. I opened the boot menu to change the boot order, the 2 HDs I have were listen, but for my DVD burner it said "No optical drive."

It's an IDE dvd burner. I was wanting to install XP on my new hard drive and couldn't boot to it. Instead, i made an image of my XP cd and made my flash drive bootable and just installed XP that way.

Would still like to know how to fix this.

Have you got the drive on the IDE cable with another drive? If so make sure one is set as Master and one Slave buy the jumper on the back.
