DVD burner issues

I've got a cousin who recently bought a DVD burner (lightscribe) and has been having some issues with it, whenever he tries to burn a DVD, the computer restarts, like there was a power failure. The problem lasted for about a week, then disappeared for about 2 weeks, I don't think we fixed it, now it has returned and I have tried everything I can think of to try and fix it.
Any ideas?

You probably got a bad drive. If it's under warranty return it!

These drives are pretty inexpensive now as you probably already know, so... it depends on how long you'd had the drive (within the first 14 to 30 days) you can almost bet you can exchange it promptly. If not, it might take longer.

If that is the case, you can either wait for it return, or buy a new one.
