DVD burner - New notebook

Hi,

I really hope that someone can help me.

Recently I replaced my ACER notebook with a Lenovo Thinkpad notebook. The ACER originally came with a excellent external DVD writer that connected with a firewire 6-pin plug.

Now, as the Lenovo notebook doesn't have a firewire bus (only USB) I bought a Firewire-to-USB adapter in order to connect my ACER DVD writer to it.
However, the external DVD burner does not react; it seems that it is powered through a Firewire port only.

Does anyone have an idea how I could have thing communicating with my new notebook?

I wouldn't trust a firewire to USB converter. Too many variations in the interfaces. About all you really could do is find some kind of firewire card. Does the computer have an expresscard slot?

But will I be sure that this card delivers the necessary 12v to power the external DVD?
