DVD burning causing crashes..

Hi all. I was using windvd creator 3 until it stopped working. I used nero 7 premium for a while and that is where this problem started. I am burning avi's to dvd to be playable on any dvd player.

The problem is that nero burnt a dvd fine. then i would set another one to burn about 10 minutes later and halfway during it's process, the computer crashes. This has happened quit a bit since using nero. I recently stopped and went back to windvd creator 3. It works fine now as well, but it just crashed my computer yesterday while burning a dvd!

I realized that it happened yesterday after i had turned on uTORRENT. I realized that utorrent had been on during the other burning sessions so is it possible that utorrent is overworking my pc while burning?

The strange thing is i was able to burn dvd's all day with utorrent and winamp on with no problems. does anybody know what the problem might be?

I think it may have to do with the fact that i am now using dvd+r's as apposed to dvd-r's. dvd+r's are quicker speed (16x as apposed to 8x). is it possible that it is burning too fast that it overheats my pc? is there a way to limit the write speed?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

your system seems to be unstable for some reason, perhaps its a virus/spyware issue. Maybe you should post a Hijack log in the security section just to rule it out.

1024mb ram
AMD Athlon 64 dual core 3800, 2.01GHz

it is still under warranty and i have already taken it in for a 'tune-up' and they had to order a new hard drive. But regardless, it was working fine even after that. then just now nothing. its due for a spyware'n so ill do that and see what happens.

has anybody else had crashing issues with uTorrent?

To answer some of your minor questions, you should be able to burn at a slower rate. Nero has it right on the burn dialog. Just select a slower speed.

High speed burning is not going to overheat the pc. It's a relatively simple process. I never burn at more than 1/2 max of disk.

If you have problems, turn off all other apps including anti-virus. Disconnect from the internet (eg by locking firewall) - to stop things like auto-updates and essential if you've turned off the AV software.

From my experience most internet apps interrupt other processes. When they need to write to hdd, they do it at the expense of everything else. Bit torrent programs most definitely should not be running if you have problems.

You could try running Task Manager "always on top" "performance tab" during a burn (start well before burning) and look for sudden changes in processor usage.
