DVD Burning problem

Every time I try to burn a DVD I get this error:

Failed to read memory cache
(D:)LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-16355 (1,0)

SRB command completed with error

Anyone know what the problem might be? I've upgraded the firmware so it can't be that.

Also, another problem; when I open Nero it doesn't recognise my DVD drive. I know this is a problem with Nero as I can watch DVD's and other burning programs recognise it.

When you get the error message, can you tell if it's coming from Windows, or another program?

Do you have a retail version of Nero, or an OEM version that may have come bundled with an earlier DVD burner? The retail version is supposed to detect your burner automatically, but it may depend on what version you have installed. The bundled version will only recognize the burner it was packaged with.

I have both the retail and the version that came with my burner.

It worked fine for months but then a few weeks ago it just stopped recognising the drive.

I've tried un-installing and re-installing both programs but it doesn't seem to help.

As for the message, I can't really tell.

Okay. You can't burn DVD's. Does that mean any DVD, or just one specific type, such as DVD-RW? Also, are you still able to burn CD-R's and CD-RW's?

Nope, can't burn anything.

Nero doesn't even recognise the drive. Like I said, I've un-installed and re-installed Nero numerous times and it still doesn't recognise the drive. Even though every other program does, which leads me to believe there's some sort of probelm with Nero.

If there's both remnants of the retail version as well as the bundled version, perhaps there's some sort of conflict which is mucking things up, and disabling Nero and preventing it from recognizing the drive. You'd have to get rid of every single piece of Nero, including the registry ENTRIES, and then try again.

Can you burn anything at all using XP's built-in functions? If you can't then it sounds like something's mucked up with the drive.

Don't say the firmware can't cause a problem. That's why they usually have the old versions of firmware saved, just in case something like this happens.

You can just go to www.download.com
search for a free registry cleaner and use it.

Just first uninstall nero and delete its folders after installation. Then run the registry cleaner and it'll clean those invalid nero paths which may of been left behind.

how does one go about getting rid of the registry?
You DON'T! I'm sorry, I worded that wrong!
You get rid of all the entries pertaining to Nero from the registry! Computerhakk is right. Get a Registry cleaner and run it after you uninstall Nero.
