DVD burning software

Quick question: It's not illegal to take a DVD you purchased and copy it for your own personal use (as opposed to copying many and selling them), right? If so, i was wondering what a good program for ripping and copying the DVD's might be. If it's free, great, but if not I'm still interested. Thanks for the help.

The situation is very similar to that depicted in "Catch-22": it's perfectly legal to make a backup copy of a DVD for personal use, but cracking a DVD's copy protection is illegal. And since most of the DVDs are copy-protected, you can't exercise your rights without breaking the law...

Catch22 indeed (mostly dependent on your country). To solve your question the following (free and very effective) tools can be utilized:
- DVDShrink (for DVD9 discs)
- DVD43 (region free thingy)
- DVD Decryptor (ripper thingy)
