Hi,

I have matshita dvd-ram uj-850s. I installed W7 Professional 64-bit yesterday, had W Vista before.

On Vista I was able to read/burn CD and DVD, now I'm able to read/burn only DVD.

The problem is maybe cause by firmware or drivers but it's impossible to find them. I also can't find the manufacturer of Matshita.

Any ideas?

Thanks

goto the device manager and find your burner. right click and see if it finds a better driver. does it show a exclamation next it in yellow?
if it does then a hardware problem still exist.

No there's no better driver for it. No exclamation messages. No upper and lower flitres in the registry. Everything seems normal but still can't read CDs.
Do you think, Matshita simply can't work with 64-bit os?

Thats sound like a very old drive. There are 2 different lasers for reading cd/dvd's and its possible the one that reads cd's has gone out. However, try getting a can of compressed air and blow inside the drive to see if its just dirty.

optical drives really dont last.
i bought a samsung one and after 2 months it kept failing burns and wasting discs.
prob why it was only 20 euros
