I was wondering if there was a dvd decoder software that is free that i could download, I have a memorex dvd player drive but whenever i put in movies to my computer it never lets me watch movies

Does that program have a build in decoder? I know Media Player Classic works great, but you still need some type of decoder installed on the machine.

K-Lite Codec pack should include a decoder.

I'm not sure what you mean by dvd decoder. but I got it cos WMP Player wouldnt play my dvd's and I couldnt get a program like power dvd that wasnt on a trial. The only thing I dont like about it is that when you put a dvd in. it "analyses" it or something. this takes longer when the disc has more scratches. I guess it does this to get all the information to ensure smooth playback.

Short version is "an MPEG2 codec of sorts". A few years ago, free options were rare but now they are commonplace. You can get ffdshow to do MPEG2 and then you can play DVDs in almost any standard player :)

Oddly enough I got ffdshow a while back and WMP still couldn't play DVDs, yet I clearly remember using it for WMP before. So I'm using my 30 days of purevideo right now.

Perhaps this was back in Windows2000 days? My early W2K days, System32\dvdplay.exe could play it fine (or it might have been WME, it's all a blur at this age)

No it was on XP, in fact it's right now :P Maybe it's just WMP11 is broken, I think I remember it working on WMP9 and I know it was with WMP 10. It doesn't really matter, Media Player Classic works fine for me as does purevideo.
