DVD Drive doesn't burn anymore

Hello,

I have a problem: Since a month, my DVD-writer no longer burns DVDs. I have tried various DVD's (+ R and-R), but it doesn't work. I also (to my knowledge) haven't done anything crazy that one consequence of this could be.
When I look in My Computer, the DVD-RW drive sees that there is a DVD in the drive, but properties says he uses 0 and 0 available. If I go drag photos to describe him, I get a windows message or a picture I want to cancel, the picture would skip or want to try again (I can't burn the picture onto the DVD).
It goes with me (now) mainly for burning pictures of my summer vacation. Has anyone a solution?

(sorry for my english, I'm from Holland)

i would try opening up the tray and lightly spraying with a can of static free air across the laser. check a electronic or office store. be careful. a can of air has an oil base in it. then again im guessing that you can read a cd or dvd just fine. other than that i cannot think of nothing else except a new one.

Yes, I can read CD/DVD, but not de recordable ones.
Maybe this helps: I've just re-installed Windows XP ServicePack 2 and heard some rumors about XP not working with DVD recordables without a patch or something.
Also, it is an external DVD-drive, with USB.

@Tremmor:
If the laser is full of dust, I can't even read normal CD/DVD's, can I?
