when i click on dvd icon it comes up with a message -
E:\
Application not found
now, the same dvd works fine on other computers
can someone help me out?

Two things, either disc drive is bad or you need to re-install the drivers. If you do not have the driver disc on hand then you can just go to your laptop company website and look for where the drivers are at.

in properties of dvd drive [PLUS DVD+RW DS8A3S] it says the drivers are working properly.
it wont let me update the driver or so it seems.
also verbatim and maxell dvd+rs are working properly
this dvd hasnt got anything written on it,dont know what company it is,if thats important

goto explorer. do ya see the dvd drive. are you seeing any kind of exclamation? if so then right click and auto update.
On the other hand you say application. (the program) i think.
If thats the case goto start programs do ya see the exe file
for your burn software? try that. Ya could if it works right click the exe
file your using or burn software and create shortcut.
copy and paste on the desktop. then delete the shortcut you created it in.

Im thinking the application is corrupted. might want to reinstall if needed.

about a year ago i had a similar problem and this helped:
1. Click Start, then Run, then enter REGEDIT to open the Registry Editor
2. Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class entry
3. Under the Class entry, double click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4. In the right-hand pane, click ONCE to select the UpperFilters entry
5. Make sure the UpperFilters entry is highlighted, press Delete, then Yes.
6. In the right-hand pane, click ONCE to select the LowerFilters entry
7. Make sure the LowerFilters entry is highlighted, press Delete, then Yes.
8. Close the Registry Editor by clicking File, Exit.

The problem is there is no upperfilters entry this time, and i didnt delete it
