DVD Drive wont read

Whenever i insert Music CD into the Drive, it reads it perfectly.

Now when i insert a game into the DVD drive, the little light flashes continuasly, and nothing happens. Before, it used to flash just some times, and then the disc would load. Now it doesnt even do that.

And when i go into my Computer into the DVd drive and click it, the hourglass icon shows up and stays there for a couple of mins, until i click it again, and then the program stops responding.

I checked the autoplay feature to be enabled, but nothing happens.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Is the cd drive and the dvd drive the same drive as like a combo unit? Or are they actually separate drives? Most likely the drive is bad. Is it IDE or SATA connection?

The drive used to read everything before.

it is HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55L from LG, and its a multi 20x LightScribe drive i think, it can read CDs and DVDs. Not sure if its SATA or IDE.

Have to agree with johnb35. On the other hand try retracting the cd or dvd. Put it in again and hold the shift key until the light goes out. When it stops search with explorer and click the drive then find the exe file on the program or what ever then execute. Has been a few programs that had to be executed this way. All the rest worked fine (programs and music) and no explanation. Not much you can do except replace after that.

for information the comment was for maybe the same program ive tried and have 4 burners in my computer. had to be run the same way. maybe it will and maybe it won't. done deal.

Look for a firmware update for drive as LG drives are known for these problems.
The firmware update might fix it.
