DVD help

I bought a Dell laptop with Windows Vista on it and I could play DVDs on it via Windows Media Player. I reinstalled Windows and now on Media Player when I try to play a DVD a message says 'Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.'
I have 4 discs that came with the laptop:
Microsoft Works 9
Drivers and Utilities
Application
Reinstallation DVD
Just how do I get this DVD decoder?

Sounds like some video codec's are missing. I would download a full codec pack and install it.

I downloaded that pack but there's still a problem. It now says:

'Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings.'

I tried this and it hasn't solved the problem.

Ooo and now since I downloaded that package when I play videos through VLC there's a blue tinge!

Either getting either WMP to work or VLC so I can watch DVDs would satisfy me.

I had the same problem but with Windows XP. I installed the following codecs but for Windows XP and i had my problem solved. You need those codecs below because you are running Vista. I hope it helps but i think you have to delete your old codecs in order to have fresh codecs installed.
