DVD icon missing

Ok, the other day, I was strolling through the add/remove programs to get some crap off my computer and apparently I deleted something that removed my DvD Rom drive from view of the "my computer" screen. So then, I assume that i deleted the drivers and try to reinstall. I go to the device manager screen and under the dvd rom drive, I clicked uninstall. What apparently has happened is that I have COMPLETELY removed the DvD rom from my computer. How do i get it back? It is a
Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-842s ATA Device. it also said the driver provider was microsoft. What do i do?

thanks!

Restart the computer. Even if you uninstall it through Device Manager, if the device is physically in there the next time the computer is started, the drivers will be re-installed and everything should work fine. Also, CD/DVD device drivers should not be listed in add/remove programs, there is something going on if that's teh cause of it.

When you deleted the drive from device manager, was there an exclamation mark on the DVD drive icon?

Ok, you're right about the restart thing. Yes it does have an exclamation point by the drive name. What is going on with it?

Double-click the icon in the device manager and the properties error should pop up. It should display a brief description of whatever the problem is, as well as the error code; copy-paste the lot of text here so we can tell what's up with it.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

Help anyone? I need to be burning some CDs for my band... We recorded a home studio song and i need to get soem CDs out ASAP. I appreciate all the help!!

bow about doing a system restore from the point right before you messed up

alternatively you can do a windows update and download the optional updates, or use the ultimate xp drivers disk (assuming you're using xp), or the program "driver checker" or similar programs that checks all your drivers and update them online
