DVD on a vcd

if it plays dvd's, then it should say DVD-ROM on the dvd drive, or in My Computer. If it doesnt, then it most likely doesnt support dvd's.
 
I did put a dvd inside the laptop and it won't play it, it just shows the menu screen but it won't play. When I go to Windows media player I go to the play menue and it say vcd or cd, but it doesn't say dvd.I put a vcd and it did play it. I went to my computer and it says dvd.
 
if it says that you have a DVD-ROM in windows, then it must be something wrong with your drive or the DVD your using, have you tried using more then 1 dvd? what happens when you use a DVD Data disc, are you able to transfer files?
 
vcd player? a player.. depends if the player supports dvd files/cd.. what kind of player it is? if that is what u meant... if not..

ur cd drive? that will depend if it supports dvd cd's also.

Odds are you have a DVDROM (or better) since PCs, for the most part, dont have "VCD drives" .. so yes, you can physically play DVDs. All you need is an MPEG2 codec to be installed (generally comes with any software dvdplayer).

1. What DVD movie? (have you tried another movie?)
2. What software?

Agreed but if that were the case then the menu wouldnt show up
 
The software I"m using to is windows media player. I went to Windows mediaplayer.com and dowloaded decoders and other stuff, now when I put a dvd in my laptop it says that it does need a video codec, but I don't know where to get it.
