Dvd Player Dont Work

My sister used to have this computer. It used to work but then it stopped. I upgraded from ME to XP for several reasons and one of them were to check out if the DVD player will still work. It still doesn't work. When I sitck a DVD in there, nothing happens. It loads but then it stops.
 
Haha..

You say that it loads up? So does that mean that a program is launched and nothin plays? Does the drive light go on? Does it spin up in any way?

The light does light up, and yes, it is a DVD player. I'll be checking some programs to see if it was just the program I was using that didn't make it work.
 
Few questions to help us.

1) Is this your only CD/DVD drive for your computer? If not, do the others work?
2) Does it at least read CD's?
3) Are you trying different DVD's?
4) Have you tried opening the case, and making sure the cabling is securely in place?
5) What's the make/model of the drive? and Are you fully updated on windows?
6) Roughly what's the last time it worked (year wise)
