Dvd player problem... can someone help?

Ok heres the problem.... i just recently bought a new toshiba dvd player for my tv the other day. I installed it and it was ready to go, i whipped in the ol godfather dvd and it played brilliently, today i was about to play a new dvd i had bought but there was a problem....
On my player when it isnt on there is a standby light (which means its off) i when switch it no so the light is green and the screen flickers from cable tv to a black screen, i thought this was nothing so then i press the AV button and i see the picture, but wheres the sound?? I check the manual it says if there is no sound make sure everything is connected properly, i have and the connectors are firmly in place.
So to sum it up, i have

1) no sound
2) tv flickering when i switch on the dvd player

My dvd player is connected on my tv using a gold plated scart lead and it has a lifetime warrenty.
ALSO NOTE, that my player was working FINE just a few hours ago when i bunged in a dvd. But now it doesnt work....

Please can someone help me out?

tyr hooking it up to another tv and see if it does the same thing. if it does then there is a problem with the player and you need to exchange it for new one.
