Why when my computer play dvd it had no sound? But it had sound when i play vcd n cd..

brought from store....Its brand Asus and could it due to speaker? as i heard it need at least 5 speaker?

Because if it is IDE you will need a sound cable to go into the sound card / motherboard....

You need that regardless. Are you saying that if it's SATA he doesn't need his speakers plugged in????

no, there is a lead that goes from the drive to the motherboard, and SATA drives don't need that.

Cohen, an IDE drive will play sound from a DVD without additional connectors to the motherboard or sound card.

That cables not need anymore, it went from the back of the drive to the sound card or motherboard if you had onboard. It was for analog sound. All motherboards and drives now use digital sound transfered through the IDE/Sata cable now. I havent used one of those since Socket 5. Just make sure under your drive properties in device manager you have checked enable Digital audio for this drive.
