i have a pioneer dvd-rw dvr-104 drive that i just recently installed
it came ina computer i bought from a friend of mine
it will burna nd read cd's. but it will not read a dvd
i'm not sure if it will burn a dvd yet or not as i don't have any blank dvd's yet
i tried searching pioneer's website, but it wasn't loading very well over dial-up
i tried searching google and didn't really find anything helpful

i was thinking about trying the firmware update and trying to update the drivers
i wanted to ask for some advice first to see if that would even possibly fix it, and if any of ya'll have downloaded from:
driverfiles.net or cdrom-drivers.com
i've never heard of them and was wondering if anyone knows if they're trustworthy or not
thanks for the help

This might be a stupid question, but have you tried a fair dew different dvd's? Cos I have a Liteon drive with everything ( DVD+- CD/RW+- DVD Ram) So basically evrything that you can get in your average cd drive. And it would play virtually any dvd;s except for one, And that dvd worked in other computer and dvd players and stuff.

What i'm trying to say is, sometimes dvd drives just wont read dvd's anymore because the technology is upgraded and not made for that kind of disc anymore. So if you havent already, check with many different dvd's.

If its a DVD RW drive then it should be able to play anything. My drive is a ASUS one and it play everything I throw at it. :P

are you sure your trying to read a DVD not a VCD? if thats not it i agree with elite but it a cable is loose it wouldnt hvae detected dvd drive

well, i have tried different dvd's and checked and swapped cables. none of that worked
i don't know how to check ide controllers in bios.
i mean i don't really know what to check for anyways
i'm fixing to try downloading another player and the driver and whatnot. i've already downloaded the firmware update. hopefully one of those will work
if anyone has any other ideas, i'd be glad to try em
