Dvd Writer Morphs Into Cd Drive!

Earlier today I burnt a DVD, (not on my computer) which consists of several .rar files. However when I tried to run it on my PC, my Dvd Writer cannot seem to read the dvd. When in explorer or my computer, clicking the Dvd Writer drive will cause explorer to hang. After about 10 seconds, the Dvd Writer is magically changed to "Cd Drive", which is accessible after about another 10 seconds BUT shows that it is empty.

What could possibly be going on?

If it helps, I have an NEC 3500.

Well..

I do not know what the problem is but you could try removing the drive in control panel and then reboot and have it recognize it again. Perhaps that could work.

When I take the DVD out it recognises the drive as a DVD Writer again! Ah well, maybe the DVD is corrupt. Thanks anyway.
