DVD-Writer problem

I have an 4 year-old DVD-Writer (Asus) which is causing me trouble. Whenever I want to read a DVD I have to eject the drive like 10 times before I can see the content in My Computer. What is causing this problem?

It does this with many DVDs, some take more tries to work, some need less.

It's not a recent problem, I have been having this problem for almost an year, but now it's getting worse.
I installed the OS many times since then. But when I had linux, i didn't use the DVD-Writer at all.

Put a known good working burner in your system and try it. If it works like it should then you have either a dirty lens or bad drive.

I agree on the dirty laser lens. Open a tray use static free air and lightly spray across the laser. just stick the nozzle in and spray light. seen it happen many times.

don't turn can sideways. you will get an oil base on the lens.
