Here is my issue:

im trying to burn a DVD what should I use -/+, I have a new LG DVD RW -/+ burner, so what should I use....help me

If it's compatible with both, go for the -.
It's more compatible with most dvd readers and will probably work out for you better in the long run.

ok, second part of the question. Are Movie DVD's or any other DVD are they set as a -/+ from the factory?

I don't know what commercial DVDs use, probably neither...it's probably it's own format. But go with what computerhakk said. DVD-R's tend to be the most compatable.

'Cause ripping of DVD movies is considered piracy, which this forum prohibits.

But in answer to your question, yes you'd have to shrink it. I advise you not to ask how to do this, though, or the mods will come and get you

to be honest...i havent burned any dvd before cos i dont have the dvd writer (and i dont know much about them really)...but it seems wired to me that if the dvd-r is more compatiable and better than dvd+r...why would a manufacturer still bother to produce and sell the dvd+r.....from my point of view dvd-r and dvd+r do not have much difference (they are not like the blue ray and hd-dvd, right???)

The original format was -R made by Pioneer and other companies didn't want them to own the market, so like that +R was developed and released.
