dvdrw plays cd's but not dvdr

i have a tdk dvdrw1280b, when first purchased it worked great, after a few months the burner started to clunk out on me, wouldnt burn right, come to find out it was the dvdr's i had just purchased, before that though i tried to upgrade my firmware, i know i have the correct firmware, t7s4 is the firmware for it, since installing though it will play cd's and dvd movies but anything that is on a dvdr im ****ed, all my data is backed up on them as iso's and so i cant even get access to files that may help
 
nothing at the site about anything like this, i tried emailing them so hopefully they'll have some answers, otherwise im done with tdk
 
does now fixed it, i ended up using LiteOn SOHW-1213S firmware, found out its identical to the tdk 1280b burner, thanx for everyone input
 
my HP dvd rw does the same thing. reads CDs but not DVDs. i have tried doing everything to fix it but it still doesnt work. its probably just a piece of junk. i bet its the same deal for yours.
 
I am having a problem very similar to this one. I upgraded the firmware on my tdk 1280 dvd burner because I was not getting the proper burn speeds on the dvd media that I bought and now I can no longer burn on the media at all. I get an error saying that the media is invalid or incompatible.

I tried using the LiteOn SOHW-1213S firmware but the program tells me that I don't have a compatible recorder. How can I use the liteon firmware on my tdk drive?
 
The burner I have will do 12x on +R and 8x on -R. I had bought some 16x +Rs but it was only letting me burn at 4x.
