DVI cable?

I see DVI cable with 3 rows of 3 pins on 3 on each side making it 18 pins with 1 pin at the end and some space in the center. Then I see another type of DVI cable with that is 3 rows of 8 pins making it 24 pins sith 1 pin at the end. You can go to google and put in DVI cables under images and see what I mean. I orders both of these from amazon.com but don't know the difference?

All of these are just different variants. It just ordepends which one the computer or monitor will take. I am pretty sure it is DVI-D which is the main one. I have luckily never had to use them as I am still with the old VGA cables and will upgrade to HDMI if and when I need to.
