DVI question

I believe you have a lcd monitor. My question is how much clearer would mine be if I used a DVI video card with DVI cable compared to VGA. Is there that much of an improvement? Or is it only marginally better. Keep in mind I am not a gamer and will only watch movies on my PC on occasions.

I am wondering if I should spend the extra $30 if it's really that big of a difference.

Please let me know what you think.

thanks

It a comparison of digital (DVI) versus analog (VGA, D sub-15) signal. A larger display is the best argument for DVI, but I hear there can be a slight noticeable difference on smaller screens, which most LCD monitors are.

It depends is the easiest answer. Don't base your decision on expectations of a large scale though, if you do notice the difference between the two, it will be minimal at best.

In agreement with hermeslyre.

With VGA the Information is converted from digital to red, green and blue and some accuracy is lost in the conversion but this depends on your monitors circuitry when it converts it back to digital.

With DVI the information goes directly from your video card to your monitor and the colour of each pixel is calculated by your video card so that no conversion is necessary.

As for whether you will notice any difference, maybe if you look hard enough because different monitors will make the conversion differently. The larger the monitor and resolution the more chance of seeing the difference.

Personally if I had it I would use it, if not I wouldn't bother.

My opinion only that you probably wouldn't notice the difference
I have both on a 20" and have tried both and cannot see any difference
