DVI Recognized by BIOS but not VISTA

Hi, I recently hooked up my entertainment system to include my PC, which means hooking up my SONY Bravia KDL52XBR7 as my monitor using my GeForce 8600-GT card. Everything worked fine and dandy with VGA until I changed to a DVI setup. Now I can only get the BIOS to recognize it. Vista64 never boots up. I waited for the audio to kick in and it never came. The cable itself which is a Dual-Link DVI-I to HDMI must work if BIOS recognizes it. I've noticed a few things:

1) VGA connection works fine when it is the only connection
2) VGA & DVI both hooked up results in same scenario that VISTA never boots
3) Hooking up DVI cable while VGA connected and VISTA booted results in BSOD

Any suggestions to get it working? I have already downloaded the latest nVidia drivers.

The BIOS really has nothing, or very little to do with detecting displays. Most I've seen simply clone the screen on all outputs until after POST and the drivers are loaded.

How exactly does it BSOD? Does it do so as soon as you plug in the DVI cable? I know some of these later drivers can be quite quirky when trying to configure multiple video outs... Have you tried reloading the drivers?

The BSOD happens as soon as I plug in my DVI cord. I am not using multiple monitors... I'm just trying to plug into my TV. I've heard that it may work if I try dual monitors and then go into the nVidia Control panel and switch my primary monitor... But I don't know if it will work. I think that it will just show the monitor with VGA and show blank over my DVI monitor. I think its an issue of Vista recognizing digital signal. Or the video card not receiving the signal from the TV to display in digital mode. Because if my cable and port are digital DVI, and the card is not receiving the message to display signal, it will display analog by default and I would get a blank screen. This doesn't explain however why Vista wouldn't boot at all with the DVI setup though. Is there any way to manually set the display as a digital signal through the DVI port?

Using your VGA output, uninstall all of your video drivers and reboot with your DVI connection in. After a driver uninstall, Windows uses default drivers which should have no problems (except usually a lower resolution.) The DVI should work, if you get to desktop just go online and download new drivers with your DVI cable still in.

Also, how do you have your audio connected between your TV and PC? Depending on your configuration, you may not get audio at all.

My audio is via a Sound Blaster X-Fi PCI-e card via digital signal to a home theater surround sound setup. Thanks, I'll give it a try. :)
