DVI to DVI-I?

Okay so my monitor has both VGA and DVI inputs in it I am buying the XFX 8800GT in about short of a month now, and I was wondering....

If my DVI cable going from my monitor would be compatable with going in to the 8800GT's DVI-I. I'm contemplating buying a DVI male cable.
 
Actually even on mid range cards as well as the high end models out driven by both NVidia and ATI vpus you will note the primary and secondary output not input ports where you have to use the included adapter when plugging a vga type monitor on. DVI for a newer HD capable lcd does offer a far cleaner display especially on the larger lcds out seeing higher screen resolutions.

Most lcds now come with both vga and DVI cables for use on just about any card that will support the standard default resolution for that model. Using the DVI cable also sees one less adapter by simply plugging the cable straight into the primary DVI output on the card.
 
So, then it will work if i plug the DVI-D male into the DVI-I female....right?

BTW my computer did nto come with a DVI-D cable which is why im buying one.
Answer above question please.
 
One look at the specifications for both monitor and video card will show if the monitor has a DVI input along with a vga input as well. The monitor if that has a DVI input and bought new should already have two cables included along with it where buying a separate cable unless looking for a different length wouldn't even be needed.

For one XFX 8800GT card it clearly shows two DVI outputs for primary and secondary displays as well as a HD-TV out/ s-video out at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150280

Note the photo there showing the output jacks being the DVI type typical on just about all new and newer PCI-E type cards. The cards already include the vga adapter if the monitor only sees a vga input and not a newer model with both available.

I just said my monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs. I only have 1 monitor.

All I wanted to know was if i could plug the DVI-D cable in to the 8800gt's dvi-i port and if it would work.

A simple yes or no would suffice.
