DX10 with DX9 card

Can someone explain this.

vista shows I have DirectX 10 with a 7950GT.

I guess so.

So is a DX9 card running DX10 better than it running DX9.

It's no different than say when I ran DirectX 9 on my Radeon 8500(which is 8.1 compatible) As mentioned, it runs you just don't have all the features.

Same reason you can run DX9 games on DX8 cards. It's just the API used within the OS. It doesnt mean your card is DX10, it's just Vista uses DX10 is all it's saying.

It just means you have DirectX10 installed on your system, but it doesnt mean your card can run it at a hardware level.
