Dynamic to basic

I have an IDE hard drive and bought a SATA drive, went to use a few different cloning programs but discovered they need to be basic not dynamic discs in order to do so. Even when I reboot as an admin I can't convert back to basic, and I don't want to pay for a program I'm going to use once. What are my options? Thanks.

One more question, what if I install XP on the new HD with the same key, will it be valid because it's the same hardware?

The key should still be valid. You can't use the install on the other drive once you do that though.

If you are running dynamic disks in windows, which is similar to a striped array, you need to wipe out all the drives as data is stored dynamically across all drives as if it were one drive. There is no way to undo it with out wiping the drives.

Well that sucks. Anyways, I found an XP disc I burned awhile ago with a key, installed it, went to activate it on the new HD but it didn't pass. I lost the disc for the system I'm on now, (my old HD) so I used Winkeyfinder to get my key for this system, tried with the burned disc but the key won't work. The burned disc is XP service pack 1, and this systems key is service pack 2, so is that why it won't work? If I create a boot disk on this system can I install it on the new HD with the key? Thanks.

It's not piracy, I made a back-up disc a long time ago, I guess I should of mentioned it, but if a moderator considers this post piracy related then I'll end it, but at this point I think I'll just go and finally get Windows 7, worth the $130 to end this headache.
