E-mail Delivery Question

I've sent an email to a @msn.com address but haven't received a response (old friend I lost track of), if this account was no longer in use would the e-mail have been bounced back to me? If the account is active but hasn't been checked for mail in a certain period of time would the e-mail come back or would I get some type of message about it not being delivered.
Thanks In Advance

if the account is still active and they havent checked theyre email in awhile then it should not give you a message saying it wasnt delivered. but if that account is not active and they cant send it they wont get the message and youll get a message from msn saying that they did not receive youre message. i think its something like that.
