E6300 vs E6400 (for a non-overclocker)

I pretty much have my computer's build set, but I can't decide between the E6300 and the E6400, so I was hoping someone here could tell me if there's a very significant difference between the two. And what I'll be using the computer for, if that helps at all, is playing games. They're mostly MMORPG's that have been out and about for a while now, so they're not exactly high demanding, DX10, etc etc games. Anywho, with that in mind, here's some of the key components going with the processor.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 - Retail ($221)

Motherboard: Asus P5B LGA 775 Intel P965 - Retail ($119.99)

Memory: Corsair XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) - Retail ($162.99)

Hard Drive: Western Digital 250 GB, 7200 RPM, 16 MB cache - OEM ($74.99)

Videocard: EVGA 7600GT 256 MB - Retail ($109.99)

Powersupply: Enhance ENP-5150GH 500W - Retail

Any info that can shed some light on this decision will be greatly appreciated.

I would go with the E6400, but only if that means you can afford it without sacrificing any other parts. They will both be great processors, but the E6400 is clocked significantly higher.

I would say that the E6300 is better value because you can get E6600 speeds very easily with it, but the E6400 performs better with-out overclocking. It doesn't perform that much better though, I doubt you'd notice it unless you were benchmarking.

He said he wasnt overclocking

If he was, I would say go with the E6300 since they overclock about the same, but since hes not, he would benefit from the higher clocked E6400.

Pacster, can I make this suggestion...try to go with a better graphics card if you're into gaming. I have an E6400 paired with an X1300 Pro and the graphics card restricts the gaming performance to the point it's basically useless. The 7600GT will offer better performance than the X1300 but I think a 7900GT would compliment an E6400 more then a 7600GT. It will run you about $90 more but I think it would be worth it. If you bottleneck the games at the video card your processor isn't going to show you its full potential in games. For example my old single core AMD machine runs games much smoother then my Core 2 Duo rig and that's 100% due to the 7900GS being a much better card then the X1300 Pro. Don't overlook the graphics card for gaming.
