E6400 issue, please advise.

Hello,

I put together an E6400/Asus P5B Deluxe/Patriot PC6400 (1GB) system this afternoon.

I have an issue that perhaps some of you out there might be able to help me with.

The computer operates. I am using it now, but when I power on the PC I get a message that states:

"Intel CPU uCode loading error"

I did a Google search and searched this site for the phrase. I didn't find anything here, and Google returned some information that was useful, though vague. Evidently the uCode has something to do with the CPU itself or the MoBo and is not accessible or repairable by the user. The Final Analysis is that one or the other is bad and that a RMA is in order.

Does anyone out there have any experience with this error?

In addition, when I run CPUz, the multiplier switches between x6 and x8 repeatedly. I have not installed any of the OC'ing software and I can not find any other apps that might be causing this fluctuation. Could this be related to the previously mentioned problem? I do have the Cool n" Quiet and the PC Probe utils installed. The C n' Q is disabled and PC Probe is a monitoring app only.

I will contact both Intel and Asus to see what I can shake loose from them. I just wanted to hear what others may know so I do not get snowed - I don't know much about Intel CPU's

Thanks for your time and input.

Do you have the latest BIOS on your motherboard for the Conroe? you may need it to run Core 2 Duo well.

Thank you for the responses. That leads me to my second issue.

The Asus MoBo comes with a suite of utilities. Two of them are related to BIOS update. I can not install them as I recieve an error stating that "no Asus motherboard detected". Wierd, huh. This also occured on the A8N32-SLI in my sig. I never bothered with it as the out-of-the-box BIOS works great and my OC is rock-solid.... and I am somehat lazy. Now I have no option. You're probably wondering why I'm stalling. Well, I have never flashed a BIOS before, and my Rig doesn't have a 3.5" floppy. I can remedy the latter to attempt the former with a little help. The instructions state that I install an uformatted floppy in the drive, format and then copy the BIOS to it. I guess I would download, and uzip it, then simply copy it to the A: drive. Is that correct? Then I would boot from the floppy? What then?

Thanks for your patience and for reading this far. I am much more of a "hands on" learner, reading gets me only so far, then it fades...

Any help would be awesome! Thanks.

yes youll either unzip it or some will have an .exe file that you start and it will let you select your floppy drice and it will copy the bios for you the once u boot up press del(or whatever to get to your bios) and select boot from floppy or if you have an update bios option use that

My CPUz switched my E6300 for x6 to x7 all the time, until I updated it to version 1.36. Download that, it provides better support fot P965 chipsets... :)
