E6550 Bottleneck

well i decided against it because appearently there isnt a very good hacked driver for crossfire on the 790i. gonna get 4gb of pc3 10666 and vista instead. that is unless anyone knows a good hack for the 790i then ill get the second 4870.

edit: getting 8gb now

i wouldnt recommend windows vista for anything gaming related being that that it drags frame rate compared to XP. the whole games for windows thing seems to want to force people down that road. ill see what i can dig up on a good ole' hacked driver.

i only want vista because it will support my 8gb of ram. and dont worry about digging for those drivers, i decided to sell my 4870 and i have a gtx285 on the way, which comes with FC2 and COD5 btw.

i had a hard time deciding what to spend my cash on so i decided to spend it on everything and not eat for a month (not really).

Your proc definitely doesn't bottleneck your system. You have you E6550 at a nice OC and it is also a relatively recent dual core... I wouldn't worry it at all. But why not just get a HD4870X2? The fact that it only requires one pci-e lane kinda beats out the buying a crossfire set-up (especially on an 790i). Or you can buy another gtx285 for sli if you can find a cheap one lying around (just make sure your psu is hefty enough for the job).

edit: what is your screen resolution though? if its 1920 x 1200 or lower, then I would just stick with your gtx285 as there would be no notable gains if you decide to purchase 2 hd4870s, 2 gtx285s, or a hd4870hd.
