hey simple question here. i just got a new system and want to connect my old hard drive as well. the old one is a SATA, so should i be able to simply connect it to the second SATA input on the mobo and boot up the system and view the old harddrive as another drive under 'my computer'?

i'm looking to transfer some data from the old one to the new one, then format the old one so as to have mostly a clean slate with the data that i use mostly on my new HDD. thanks in advance

yes you should, but if the hdd doesnt show you will have to format it to do that right click my computer and manage then go to disk management in there you will see it and can format it .

cool, thanks. then once i have the data that i need from it and am ready to format, will i need to put windows back on that harddrive? or since i already have windows on my new one, once the old one is formatted, will i be able to just plug it in and start putting data on and accessing data without windows being on it?

Yes, you only need windows on once. After you get the data off you want you can format the drive from my computer (right click->format) and it will erase everything on it. It will still be accessable from my computer once it's done.
