Hello.

Just got my new computer going,

Installed Easy Tune that came with the Gigabyte mobo.

Now Im new to the overclocking thing so I left it on easy in easy tune and just nudged up the clock a bit to get 3.1ghz out of my cpu. When I clicked go the display on easy tune said I was at 1.1ghz, also in CPU-Z my ghz keeps changing from 3015mhz to 1100mhz to 2500mhz etc radomly.

Whats going on and how can I fix it back to normal.

This is weird Im worried Ive done something stupid.... all the CPU and System temps are way down though like 28 degrees, and ive got my bios on automatic turn off if she does heat up, but yeah anyway know whats going on???

Cheers

What version of EasyTune is it? 5.0?
And the jumpiness of the readings on your clock speed will be due to the fact that it will drop down when it's not in use and jump back up to max when you need to do something. This is in the interest of saving power.
To be honest, I wouldn't usually recommend using EasyTune, since it's really very easy to 'properly' overclock your system.
Check out the overclocking 101 sticky.

Ok phew so its ment to jump around.

Well I got worried, lol so I uninstalled Easy Tune and would rather turn everything back to normal (including the jumping ghz thing) would you know how to do this?

Yeah I know some about bios overclocking lol but since im new to it I was thinking "this easy tune program is probably safer than me messing around with bios" lol.

Ill read the overclocking post.

As for the version, I dont know off hand as Im at work lol, but its a brand new mobo as of what a month ago, so most probably the most recent.

If you uninstalled EasyTune, it will have reset anyway.
The power saving feature is either a feature of your MoBo or CPU, and it's likely that it can't be turned off. It's good in more than one way - as well as saving power, it will also increase the life expectancy of your CPU.
Hope you enjoy your new rig :D

Hmm ok cheers, well its all good then haha was quite worried for a minute there. Yeah man the rigs mean, runs crysis damn good, that games amazing. Lol.

One side note question. Ive noticed that Vista seems to give my graphics like 1.2gbs of ram from my 4gb. How good is that?

Well, 4gbs is a lot of RAM for anybody to have, anyway ;)
I'm sure Vista knows what it's doing in this respect, but, where did you see this?

um just thinking. I think it was under "system" tab in the Navidia Control Centre but yeah I found it somewhere lol. But yeah boosting it quite a bit, lol and im only using 33 percent normally haha.

i would suggest only overclocking in your bios directly, overclocking with software in windows can cause instability.

Can, but I've never noticed a difference when Overclocking with Easytune, and through the BIOS. Both seem to raise the FSB stably, and correctly. Overclocking only with ET CAN be less ideal in that you don't have access to many of the common overclocking tools, memory speed/divider, HTT mult, if using an AMD chip, etc.

Nothing is as bad as ntune, but most software like that can and has even corrupted windows.

I think sometimes they don't set the correct value your telling it to in bios...

I think if im going to Oc it. Ill do the bios thing. Just a question, like Ive only got the stock heatsink + fan that came with the AMD Chip (X2 6000+) How much OC can you do without the need to get a better HSF???

Also what CPU temperature is bad haha, like when will it melt etc?

I would get an after market heatsink, but keep it under 55c

Don't be expecting much out of it. When i had my x2 5600+, i got a 3.3ghz oc @ 1.425v. You'll be lucky to get 3.3, if you have 4 sticks of ram, then you will be lucky to get 3.2..

Does ram directly affect the oc of CPU?? Wow.

In about 6 months time Im thinking of getting that vapour cooling kit thing. Apparently the next best thing to those crazy liquid nitrogen cooling oc'ers on youtube lol.

Oh and im home now.

I found the shared ram bit under.

Nvidia Control Panel>Help>System Information

And Vista is give my video card 1.7gbs of ram lol. : )
