im dual booting ubuntu and xp.

i need to change the settings so xp is the primary OS.

and clean up memtest and stuff.

how do i do this?
i tried going to boot/grub/menu.lst but it says i dont have permission to edit it.

any ideas?

thanks

I think you need to use the terminal and type: sudo gedit boot/grub/menu.lst . Then you will have the ability to edit the file...I think. It's been awhile. :o

ok. but what do i edit. i need to get rid of the memtest and recovery mode options.

and then change xp to the top option.

ok ive got it figured out now. would you be able to help me get my internet working?

im part of a network and it doesnt automatically detect the settings. so i went into the network settings and put in the ip, subnet... gateway.

but it still doesnt work. any idea what i have to do?

maybe if you made a new thread on that topic.

have you considered reading ubuntu's documenation and asking questions on thier forum?
