Eee pc Performance tip

I recently bought my Asus Eee Pc 900HA. Not used to laptops, i thought mine was faulty. I could get a stable 15 - 20 fps in World of Warcraft and perfectly playable 40+ fps in GTA III. Other games are no problem such as XIII, Diablo II, Sims etc (i have alot on it's 160gb HDD).

The next day i was playing and the computer was generally slower and games ran a good 10 - 15 fps slower. Turned out the pc was using 'battery mode' which underclocked the cpu dramatically and probably other things in an attempt to save battery consumption without me really knowing.

Finding this out i just went into control panel > power management and changed it from 'maximum battery' to 'minimal power management'. Now i can use my eee pc to its full potential, portable as it should be. As for battery life now, it may lose roughly 15 minutes at worst which i dont mind at all.

Ha, windows XP power management...

Super Hybrid Engine works wonders on these things. You should use it (and NOT in automatic mode). With 2 clicks I can clock it at 1.2ghz, 1.6ghz and 1.7ghz.

Thanks for the info on the ASUS netbook. I am thinking about buying the ASUS 1000HE (atom N280 Processor 160 GB HD up to 2 GB of ram, and was wondewring how you ASUS 900 handles the speed of internet pages. Do the pages come up fast like a snail. I know that the speed is not constant but I am looking for a relative speed such as very fast, fast,slow, very slow or wait until tomorrow. Also I want to load MS word and and photography editing software. From your experience with your model of the ASUS netbook do you think they can perform well.

They are generally designed for net browsing and word processing so yes, they will run superbly regarding such programs. Photo editing isnt a problem performance wise, its just that the physical size of the screen isnt ideal for great detail. You would probably strain your eyes constantly trying to edit pictures.

As a student I do alot of MS word work on essays and the likes so I can tell you that even though it takes a small while to get used to the size of the keyboard and screen, youll love using it with ease and other laptops will seem oversized, cumbersome, and old fashioned in comparison.

I tend to push the envelope with mine, using photo and audio editing software. Photo editing can be a challenge at times with the smaller resolution, but it is possible. They're great little machines, and as said above bigger laptops (ie. my 15") seem so huge and cumbersome now.
