Posting this for my dad. He bought a eMachines EL1331-05 and its been really slow lately (2 months old) . So i was wondering if I could buy him a new processor or something that makes it faster, since my old toshiba laptop that has like 2 gb of free HD its faster.

Specs:
-Athlom 2850 Processor
-Nvidia Geforce 6150SE(integrated)
-320GB HD
-3GB DDR2 ram
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Im looking mainly for a new procesor since i think it would be the component who will have the most effect, like a 2 core but not sure which will fit. So if anyone could help me to find the type of socket it is . Thanks

Get Auslogics Disk Defrag, CCleaner, Auslogics Registry Cleaner and Malwarebytes. run them all, restart and see if the computer is faster. it probably will be :)

It could also be bloatware on the system, OEM's love to install that stuff because they get paid for it.

One thing you could do to speed it up without buying anything or drastically changing anything would be to just disable aero.
Some versions of linux would be faster and are obviously free. You can try a frugal install of puppy without disturbing the existing partitions or operating system and it is a lot faster than even xp. Depending on what your dad wants the computer for it could have everything he needs preinstalled.
Sorry I don't know more about the processor. I had an emachines once that i needed specs for and I feel your pain.

^^ Besides aero, Im not sure what that is for. Im running Windows, and yea emachines dont tell any actual specs :(

Auslogics Disk Defrag, Auslogics Registry Cleaner and Malwarebytes. Im finishing running those and downloading ntuner. Hopefully it will help.

You can overclock you pc with ntune, it will boot up the clock everytime it boots up.

You could get about 200mhz out of it.

Hey what brand does it use, can you give us as much unfo as you can, im pretty sure you can actually put a phenom in it, but it will be limited to am2 speeds, i would suggest something like a 5x00+ you can get those very cheap now.

No it didnt help, and the pc had ntuner already.

Did you do that 3-hour fine tuning? It seemed to help my PC immensely. Mine gets unstable with overclocking though so I'm glad this helped.

Also is it just the internet that's slow or doing anything with your computer?
