Email software and servers

I was wondering if anyone would be able to explain something for me. I have been looking at email extraction software for my business. So here are my questions,
1. can anyone recommend any free software that works?
2. if I sent an email to these addresses, would it be considered spamming?
3. I read something about an email server and obviously I cant send thousands of emails from my email account so what exactly am I looking for to be able to pull this off?

I am very new at all this and am just going off of what someone suggested to me. I wanted to make sure this was all legal and how exactly I needed to do it. ANY help or information you can provide will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, spam laws only apply to unwanted email. If you're sending emails to legitimate recipients, it should be ok. In terms of mail servers, googling freeware or open source mail server will find you hundreds. Each one will work a different way, so just read the documentation. It may be difficult to pull it off unless you have your own domain with unrestricted permissions (some ISPs like to disallow CGI, Perl etc. so that you can't do anything with your email account.)

Thanks so much for your reply. Can you explain what you mean by having my own domain with unrestricted permissions. I have a domain through go daddy; would that be ok? Like I said, all of this new to me so I am not sure what is meant by that. Once again, thanks alot!
