I have Windows Live Mail 2012 on an old computer. For the server it has COX (pop.cox.net) I transferred to AT&T and I'm not sure what to do next to get my email running. Should I try and get it on the AT&T server or just go for a new email program?

Try to set it up as a Yahoo account but use your Cox credentials.

I've had to help grandparents with this and using Yahoo mail via web browser was the easiest. I didn't realize you could still use Live Mail in 2025.

I tried to get into my email by changing my password but I think I have the wrong server. I had cox and the server was or is (smpt.cox.net). How can I see what the server is on my yahoo account?

Looks like you may need to do some reconfiguring in windows live mail to get your cox email to come through since att/yahoo took it over.

To access your Cox email (now hosted by Yahoo) on Windows Live Mail, you'll need to use the POP protocol and a few specific settings. First, you might need to generate an app password in your Yahoo account, as Cox emails are now accessed through Yahoo. Then, in Windows Live Mail, you'll configure your account with the Yahoo server settings and your app password.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

1. Generate an App Password (if needed):
  • If you're accessing your Cox email through a third-party client like Windows Live Mail, you'll likely need to generate an app password in your Yahoo account.
  • Sign in to your Yahoo account.
  • Go to the "Security" section and find the "App Passwords" option.
  • Generate a new app password, and make sure to name it something like "Windows Live Mail" so you can easily identify it.
  • This app password is different from your regular Yahoo account password and should be used for accessing your Cox email in Windows Live Mail.
2. Configure Windows Live Mail:
  • Open Windows Live Mail and add your Cox email account.

  • You'll need to provide your Cox email address and the app password you generated in Yahoo.

  • When prompted, select the "POP" protocol.

  • For the Incoming Server (POP3), enter pop.mail.yahoo.com.

  • For the Outgoing Server (SMTP), enter smtp.mail.yahoo.com.

  • For the Incoming Port (POP3), enter 995.

  • For the Outgoing Port (SMTP), enter 465.

  • Make sure to enable "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" for both the Incoming and Outgoing servers.

  • Under "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication," check the box and ensure "Use the same settings as my incoming server" is also checked.

  • If prompted, you may need to enter your email address again in the username field without the "@cox.net" part.
