i have the origional quake for pc... as you probly know win xp doesn't use dos... a friend told me about emulators. i was wondering if any of you had a suggestion for a good dos emulator. i just want to be able to put in my game, and run it on my computer. thanks, randall.

You could try a re-partition and dual booting with w/e DOS version works best. That would be hardcore :P lol

Dosbox is pretty good, or so I've heard. I had some problems with it last time I tried it, but it's worth a shot...

Also, some programs actually have software that's not so much an emulator, but just allows you to run the game. Um...I can't remember the name of this one, but there's one that lets you run basically any of the LucasArts games...

How's it illegal? He bought the game. Emulators are only illegal if you are playing downloaded/hacked games on them. Just like P2P programs are only illegal if you are downloading copyrighted software on them. He's got a legit game.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but we have a Mod, Platinum, and Diamond member in here discussing it.

thanks so far... but

i tried the dosbox based on your suggestions... but even using it and going through all the directories, it still says quake cannot be run on NT. i'm using xp... so i guess that's a generic error code. that happens when i try mounting from the C: drive... if i try going straight to the cd rom, i get a different problem. no matter which drive i try to install to, it says the destination is full. i know they aren't though. at LEAST 30 free gigs there. maybe another solution?
