Encryption?

I use WPA Personal right now for my home network. Is this alright or should I switch to WPA2? If I do switch, can I just update things from the Linksys program and re-set up security for the desktop (xp xp3, wired) and then just find the network and connect with the password on my latop (vista)

If you switch to WPA2, all the other things that connect to your home network must support WPA2 as well.

Calibretto is correct; if you want to switch to WPA2 wifi encryption you should make sure all your wireless devices support WPA2. (Also, make sure you update the router firmware.) I have heard of people running WPA on legacy devices and running WPA2 on ones that support it, but that involves a little more tinkering.

WPA itself is a well hardened encryption assuming you have a long, alphanumeric password. As long as you have a good, long, strong password WPA is basically unhackable. I highly doubt anyone has the technical expertise and time to get past a well configured WPA protected network.

I can always re-set the password from time to time. Would I just change the password in the linksys program? If so, I assume I would need to re-enter the info on my laptop next time I connect correct?

I assume you are talking about the encryption key. If you change that key in the Linksys configuration menu then you must also use that same key when prompted for it on your laptop when connecting to the network. If the keys on the client/router aren't matching then you can't connect.
